So here it is - the feathers & felt concoction.
This is my entry for Amy Karol's apron event over at her blog Tie One On, theme: Black & White.
Hey - all of the apron entries are up - you can find them here.
(Visit here for the previous post about this apron).
I am blaming this apron on all that figure skating we have been watching into the wee hours in the last two weeks. I hope all of you out there managed to see Kim Yu-Na's transcendent long program which got her the gold. She was beautiful and moving, it was very hard to keep the tears away.
(Very reminiscent of the Torvill and Dean performance at the 1984 Olympics, to see it click here).
This Olympics had the strongest group of women skaters I have ever seen, and I have been a very avid Olympics watcher from childhood up until now.
The apron is made of long 2 1/2" 3 1/2" wide strips of white felt with loops of 1/4" wide black ribbon and dyed turkey feathers sewn on. After everything was sewn into place on the felt strips I went in and cut the edges so that they matched the shape of the ribbon loops. I built the apron by draping myself with a separate layer of white felt, pinning it on and pinching/pinning the darts so that the bodice had a shape (although this is difficult to see now). Then all of the completed felt strips of ribbons and feathers were sewn onto the separate felt darted layer. The white cotton cummerbund was sewn on last, and the back has a hidden velcro closure.
A little warning about working with feathers. Some comedy because feather bits went all over the house, but it wasn't funny when I kept finding them working their way onto my face and into my hair and clothes.
Now onto the last subject in the heading on this post. I saw this article recently in the NY Times. Yes, ChatRoulette looks very disturbing, BUT it has a lot of potential.. . I don't think I am the only one thinking this - what if Crafters had a ChatRoulette of their own? A Giant Live Show and Tell?
